John Cannon was born in Missouri and grew up in Jackson, Michigan. He graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelors’ in building construction.
John and his wife, Phillipa, founded John Cannon Homes in 1987, shortly after they were married. Today, both John and Phillipa continue to play an active role in the daily operations of their award-winning custom home business.
John Cannon has served two terms as President of the Home Builders Association of Sarasota County where he was an active Board Member of the Association for 10 years. He is currently a member of the Florida Home Builders Association; Future Home Builders of America Association and a member of the Building Industry Association of Manatee-Sarasota. He was the former President of Community Haven for Adults and Children with Disabilities and a past President of Sarasota’s Argus Foundation and a former Trustee at Out-of-Door Academy.
Mr. Cannon was a founding member of The Bank of Commerce and is currently a member of their Board of Directors and is on the Advisory Board at USF-Sarasota-Manatee College of Business. He is also a member of Sarasota Association of Realtors and Sarasota/Manatee Chambers of Commerce.
John Cannon and John Cannon Homes has been recognized for both his leadership skills and business acumen as a finalist in Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year, awarded the 2006 Excellence Award by Residential Design and Build Magazine and in 2005 John Cannon Homes was recognized as one of the fastest–growing companies in the Tampa Bay Area by The Tampa Bay Business Journal. The company has been voted as Sarasota/Manatee Best Builder for 24 Consecutive Years in the Herald-Tribune Readers’ Choice Awards and has amassed over 300 Parade of Home honors.
